Foundation Announces Wendy Moe as 2010 Erin Anderson Award Recipient
CHICAGO, IL — January 12, 2010 -- The American Marketing Association Foundation (AMAF) announces Wendy W. Moe as the recipient of the 2010 Erin Anderson Award for an emerging female marketing scholar and mentor.
Moe is a tenured Associate Professor of Marketing at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. Her research interests lie in modeling online consumer behavior and early sales forecasting. Some of her previous work has focused on developing statistical methods and models for internet clickstream data. Professor Moe has also developed several early forecasting models that can predict the sales of entertainment products early in their lifecycles and, in some cases, even before the actual launch of the product. Her current research focuses on technology enabled measures of early product success and examines online product reviews and search engine activity as predictors of future sales.
Professor Moe’s research has appeared in Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing Research, Management Science, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Interactive Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and Journal of Public Policy and Marketing.
The award recognizes and honors the life of Erin Anderson, a widely respected mentor and marketing scholar from INSEAD, who after successfully winning a battle against cancer, passed away unexpectedly in 2007. During her career, she published over forty scholarly articles in the top academic journals. Her paper on the role of pledges in channel relationships was the first recipient of the Louis Stern Award selected and presented by the AMA Interorganizational Special Interest Group. Based on her citations, she was in the top 1½% of researchers in the social sciences. But, Professor Anderson was more than a top-notch academic scholar; she was a caring mentor to many Ph.D. students and faculty members. She was a much-loved Ph.D. supervisor and she shared her experiences and insights with many faculty members as they launched their academic careers, encouraging and enabling women in academe.
Professor Moe is becoming a leading marketing academic in the mold of Anderson. One who goes beyond her significant research contributions to help other develop their careers. She will be awarded the 2nd annual Erin Anderson Award on February 20, 2010 at the AMA Winter Marketing Educators’ Conference in New Orleans, LA.
The committee for the 2010 Erin Anderson Award included marketing professors Anne Coughlan, Northwestern University (Co-Chair); Hubert Gatignon, INSEAD; Alice Tybout, Northwestern University (Co-Chair); Bart Weitz, University of Florida; and Russ Winer, New York University. According to Coughlan, “Wendy Moe is an extremely worthy recipient of this year’s Erin Anderson Award. Her research is outstanding, her impact is considerable and promises to continue in the future. Her research and mentoring embody what made Erin Anderson’s work excellent: a combination of academic contribution and managerial relevance, shared with co-authors and Ph.D. students alike.”
