Thomas C. Kinnear/Journal of Public Policy & Marketing Award

Since 1993, the editorial board of the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing (JPP&M) has annually presented a prestigious award for the outstanding JPP&M article.  In 2001, the award was renamed the Thomas C. Kinnear/Journal of Public Policy & Marketing Award to recognize the exceptional service Tom Kinnear has paid to the marketing community, particularly in raising the profile of public policy in marketing. Dr. Kinnear played a major role in creating the JPP&M and served as its first editor.  The award is meant to create awareness of the important role that marketing plays in the causes of public policy initiatives and to encourage authors to continue to produce high-quality commentaries, research analysis, and case studies on public policy in the marketing arena.

Eligibility

The Journal of Public Policy & Marketing is the premier academic and professional journal on public policy issues and their input on marketing.  Any article published in the American Marketing Association’s Journal of Public Policy & Marketing within the last three years (2003, 2004, and 2005 for the 2006 award) can be accepted for nomination.

Selection Criteria

The overall selection criteria for the Kinnear/Journal of Public Policy & Marketing award honors the article that “makes the most significant contribution to the understanding of marketing and public policy issues within the most recent three-year time period.”  The Editorial Review Board of the JPP&M is responsible for selecting the winner(s) of the outstanding article among those that are nominated. The award is presented at the annual Marketing and Public Policy conference.
